Leaving Thompson, CT at 7 am.
Our First stop is the Smithsonian Castle. This is our meeting spot in Washington D.C. We are picking up our tour guide and the adventure begins.

How Things Fly
Begin by completing the activity, How Things Fly. Click on the button below to take you there.
- There are 7 parts to the activity.
- You must do all 7 and for the first 6, note in your journal one highlight that you learned.
- Please choose at least 3 of the investigations under the label activities.
- In your journal, describe which investigation you enjoyed the most and why.
Air and Space
Click on the button to visit the Air and Space website. There are many very informative articles to be explored here. Go through them and while you are doing so please make note of the following:
- What obstacles did they have to overcome to have a successful flight?
- What conditions must be present in order for a plane to fly?
- How many times did they fail before they were successful?
- Note all of the details of the first successful flight.
In your journal, write 3 paragraphs about the Wright Brothers and their journey to a successful airplane flight. Please include as many details as possible so that someone who has never been to the exhibit, or had the opportunity to view the information online, could understand what it was like for them to have a successful flight.

Your assignment: Find 3 important achievements of each of these historical figures (Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin Roosevelt, and Thomas Jefferson). Which one do you feel had the greatest impact on U.S. History? Explain your answer. Additionally, attach one picture of each individual in your journal, next to your response.
